文字数カウント is a free online tool that accurately measures character count, byte count, and line count for Japanese text in real time, all within the browser.
文字数カウント (Character Count) is a browser-based web tool that takes Japanese text as input—either typed directly or uploaded from a file (.txt, .csv, .json, .md, up to 10 MB)—and outputs detailed statistics including character count, line count, paragraph count, byte counts across five encodings (UTF-8, UTF-16, Shift-JIS, EUC-JP, JIS), and breakdowns by character type (hiragana, katakana, kanji, alphanumeric, symbols/spaces). The tool processes all data locally; no text is sent to any server, ensuring full privacy. It is hosted on mojisuu-kaunto.com.
The first excludes only newline characters (\n), while the second excludes both newlines and all whitespace (spaces, tabs, etc.). Most academic submission guidelines use the latter.
No. All processing happens locally in your browser. The text is never transmitted to any server and is deleted when you close the page or clear the input.
The input area lists .txt, .csv, .json, and .md as supported formats. The FAQ mentions Word files (.docx) as readable; however, the main interface does not list .docx, so its support may be incomplete. For reliable results, convert Word documents to plain text first.
UTF-8 and UTF-16 counts are exact. Shift-JIS, EUC-JP, and JIS byte counts are estimates based on character mapping and are practically accurate for common Japanese text, though edge cases may differ.
The tool is fully responsive and works on any device browser, including smartphones and tablets.
