Acres is a visual Markdown notes app for macOS and Windows. It gives writers, researchers, and creators a flexible canvas for collecting ideas, arranging reference material, and developing drafts while keeping notes as plain local files in a folder they choose.
Each note becomes a card on an infinite canvas. Move related cards together, connect them, and use sections, mind maps, tags, and properties to organize a project. This lets you see the structure of an article, a research topic, or a creative plan alongside the Markdown text instead of keeping every idea in a separate linear document.
Built-in AI can work with your notes using your own provider keys or local models. Use it to explore ideas, summarize material, and revise writing while reviewing proposed changes. Edits can be inspected and undone, so you retain control of the resulting notes. Acres also includes a local MCP server for compatible AI tools to work with your workspace.
For a content workflow, collect source notes and early ideas, group cards by theme, connect the relationships that matter, and turn the outline into a draft. The same canvas can hold meeting notes, reading notes, project plans, and personal knowledge. Because the underlying files are plain Markdown, your writing remains accessible outside the app.
Acres offers a 14-day trial without an account or payment details. Continued editing requires a license or subscription after the trial. The early-adopter lifetime license is $59 for local use, while Plus is $9 per month and includes app access, Sync, and Publish. External AI provider usage may have its own costs. Choose the local workflow or optional online features according to how you want to manage your notes.
