What is ftak?
ftak is a free Chrome extension that lets you understand what you read without leaving the page. When you read news, research papers, blogs or study material online, you keep running into words, names and places you don't know. Normally that means copying the word, opening a new tab, searching, and then trying to find your place again. ftak removes those steps: select or double-click any word or phrase and a small tooltip appears right next to it. Click away and it is gone.
Key features
- Definitions: a clear meaning for the selected word or phrase
- Smart summary: short factual context from Wikipedia for people, places, events and concepts
- Map preview: an interactive map when the selection is a place name
- PDF reader: the ftak.net PDF reader gives the same lookups inside PDFs, so reports and study notes work too
Who it's for
ftak was built by a solo founder to help friends preparing for the UPSC civil services exam in India. They read long newspaper editorials, government reports and reference books every day, and constant tab-switching broke their focus. ftak also suits school and college students, other exam aspirants, researchers, writers pulling a story together from many sources, and anyone who reads a lot online.
How to use it
- Install ftak from the Chrome Web Store
- Open any webpage and select a word or phrase
- Read the meaning, summary or map in the tooltip and keep reading
Pricing
ftak is completely free. There is no account, no sign-up and no paid plan.
