Vela is the full source code of a finished streaming app for LG webOS and Samsung Tizen smart TVs. Rebrand it in one config file, point it at one JSON catalogue feed, and your streaming service is on the living-room TV without starting from a blank screen.
Why it exists
Most small streaming services already have a website and mobile apps, but the TV is missing. webOS and Tizen are their own little worlds: focus has to move predictably with a D-pad, the Back key has rules the store reviewers check, media keys must be registered at start-up, and packaging is different on each platform. Vela solves those details once so your team can spend its time on content.
What is already built
- Remote-first navigation: every screen works with the arrows, OK and Back
- Adaptive HLS playback with a timeline, buffer, plus/minus 10 second seek and remote media keys
- Live TV guide that shows what is on now and next, following the real clock
- Continue watching with progress bars and Resume
- Picture-in-picture: minimise the video and keep browsing
- Muted preview when a poster has focus
- "What to watch?" mood picker that suggests titles from your own catalogue
- English and Turkish interface strings in one file, ready for more languages
What you bring
Your catalogue as one JSON file (or your own API behind four functions), your HLS streams and your brand. Login, payments, DRM and video hosting stay with your service.
