PAYE Calculator NZ

Free New Zealand PAYE calculator that turns a gross salary into take-home pay, showing PAYE tax, ACC levy, KiwiSaver and student loan deductions.

Introduction

NZ PAYE Calculator is a free browser-based tool at nzpayecalculator.nz that converts a New Zealand gross salary into an estimated take-home figure by applying the 2026/27 Inland Revenue PAYE brackets, the ACC earner's levy, KiwiSaver and student loan deductions.

What is the NZ PAYE Calculator?

The NZ PAYE Calculator takes a gross income amount and returns a full breakdown of New Zealand payroll deductions for the 2026/27 tax year. You choose an annual, monthly, fortnightly or weekly figure, pick a tax code (M, ME, M SL or ME SL), set a KiwiSaver rate, and optionally add secondary income or a student loan. It then outputs take-home pay, PAYE income tax, ACC earners' levy, KiwiSaver contribution and student loan repayment, plus effective and marginal tax rates and a yearly/monthly/weekly breakdown table. It runs in any web browser and is built on IRD and ACC rates effective 1 April 2025 and unchanged for 2026/27.

What makes the NZ PAYE Calculator stand out?

  • Full deduction stack in one pass — income tax, ACC levy, KiwiSaver and student loan are calculated together rather than one at a time, with each line shown separately in the output.
  • Four tax codes — M (standard, one job), ME (independent earner credit), M SL (standard plus student loan) and ME SL (credit plus student loan).
  • ACC earner's levy built in — 1.75% of gross earnings for 2026/27, up from 1.67% in 2025/26, capped at a liable earnings threshold of $156,641 (maximum annual levy $2,741.22).
  • KiwiSaver at every standard rate — the 3.5% default plus optional 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% rates, deducted from take-home pay after tax.
  • Student loan modelling — applies 12% on income above the $24,128 annual repayment threshold.
  • Independent Earner Tax Credit — applies the credit worth up to $520 a year for incomes between $24,000 and $70,000, abating between $66,000 and $70,000.
  • Visual and exportable output — charts for income vs deductions and tax brackets in play, a pay breakdown table, plus share, print and download .txt options.
  • Companion calculators — links to Hourly to Salary, KiwiSaver, Student Loan and GST calculators on the same site.
