OffBooks is a bookkeeping agent that lives in Slack. Most agency owners and freelancers do their books the same way: a folder of receipts, a spreadsheet nobody trusts, and a frantic week in January. OffBooks replaces that with a conversation. You forward an invoice or drop a photo of a receipt into Slack, and Penny, the agent that runs your books, reads it, files it, and tells you where you stand.

Penny (you can rename her) does three things. She reads invoices and expenses and pulls the numbers off them, so nobody types anything into a spreadsheet. She sorts every transaction into cash in or cash out, so you can see what came in this month against what went out. And she builds your chart of accounts from the way your business really works instead of handing you a generic category list built for a restaurant or a law firm.

That last part is the one worth slowing down on. Standard bookkeeping software gives you preset categories and expects your business to fit them. OffBooks generates the categories from your actual spending. If two thirds of your cost base is contractors on retainer, that becomes a line in your books, not a footnote buried inside "Professional Services."

There is no bank connection to set up. You upload statements through Slack, which means no read-only credentials, no OAuth screen, no waiting on your bank's integration partner to approve anything. Penny will tell you which invoices are overdue and how long they have been sitting. She will not email your clients. Chasing money is a relationship decision and it stays yours. OffBooks costs $2,400 a year. It is built for people running real cashflow businesses: agency operators, studios, freelancers, and solo consultants who want to know their numbers without becoming an accountant.
