MicTest.work is a free, browser-based online tool that tests microphone functionality, audio quality, and device compatibility instantly without any downloads.
MicTest.work is a web application that uses WebRTC and Web Audio API to analyze microphones directly in the browser. It takes audio input from any connected microphone — built-in, USB, wireless, or XLR with an interface — and provides real-time visualizations, device specifications, and recording analysis. It runs on all major operating systems (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Chrome OS, Linux) and modern browsers (Chrome 50+, Firefox 68+, Safari 11.1+, Edge 12+). The platform is developed and maintained by an unnamed team; no company or individual is credited on the page.
Yes. MicTest.work processes all audio locally in your browser using secure web technologies. No recordings are stored on servers or transmitted over the internet, and no personal data is collected.
Any microphone connected to your device: built-in laptop and desktop mics, USB microphones, 3.5mm TRS/TRRS headsets, wireless Bluetooth headsets, gaming headsets, professional XLR microphones (with an audio interface), and webcam microphones.
Click 'Start Recording' to capture a sample, speak into the mic, then click 'Stop Recording'. The tool provides statistics on average volume, peak levels, and quality distribution, and allows you to play back the recording.
Common reasons: microphone permissions not granted to the browser, another application is using the mic, the mic is muted in system settings, a hardware connection issue, or an outdated browser. Refresh the page, check browser permissions, and close other apps that may be using the microphone.
Chrome 50+, Firefox 68+, Safari 11.1+, Edge 12+, Opera 60+, and mobile browsers on iOS and Android. The recommended browser is Chrome.
