Coshhvo

The assessment, the sheet and the incident, filed where they can be found

Introduction

Health and safety risk assessment software, and the free worksheets that size the file it keeps

Writing a risk assessment is a morning's work. Keeping thirty of them current, knowing which is due next month, finding the one an insurer asks about two years later, and proving the people it covers were told what changed is the rest of the job, and it is the part nobody costs. Coshhvo starts with two free worksheets that put a number on it: a risk assessment form that sizes and prices a firm's whole assessment programme from its own activities and review cycle, and a COSHH assessment worksheet that does the same from the substances actually on site. The paid plan keeps what they sized, with an author, a date and a review date on every record.

For the person who actually writes them

Coshhvo is built for one person carrying a firm's safety paperwork, not for a department with a consultant on retainer. The worksheets are free because the arithmetic should be; the plan is priced for a firm rather than a seat, because the person who writes the assessments is usually the only person who does.

A safety file is easy to start and almost impossible to keep, and keeping it is the part that gets asked about
  • Each assessment, sheet and incident as its own record, with who wrote it and when. A folder of documents is not a file. A record with an author and a date can be questioned, defended and improved; a Word file called RA_final_v3.docx on a shared drive can only be argued about. The name on the record is what turns a document into evidence that somebody competent did the work.
  • The next review on every record, before it lapses rather than after. Reviews slip because they are diary events attached to nothing. When the review date lives on the record, the month's work is a list of what is owed rather than a memory of what was done, and an assessment nobody has looked at since the process changed shows up as overdue instead of as silence.
  • The version history, and the people the change had to reach. A revised assessment that nobody has read has changed nothing on the floor. Holding the versions and the briefing against the record is what makes the difference between a firm that assessed a risk and a firm that can show the people exposed to it were told what to do about it.
Coshhvo Pro

The worksheet tells you what the programme costs. It cannot tell you, in March, which assessment was due in November and never reviewed. Pro keeps the records themselves. Coshhvo Pro is £100 a month for the whole firm, billed monthly, however many people write your assessments.
