BurdenRateLedger

What an hour of labor really costs, for small employers pricing a crew, and nobody else

Introduction

Load the rate. Read the percentage. Price the crew.

Labor cost software that works the figure on the page from your own payroll: the loaded cost of an hour with the taxes and benefits on top, labor as a share of revenue against your target, and a crew's hours on a job at the loaded rate with your markup. Free, no account. Pro keeps every loaded rate and every job's labor against the record.

Built for the cost of an hour, on purpose

BurdenRateLedger is not a payroll service, has no time clock and no scheduling board, and it is not going to get them. Every figure on every tool is there because someone pricing a crew's hours needs to know what the hour costs before they quote it.

Load the rate. Read the percentage. Keep the ledger.
  • The wage plus the taxes and benefits on top, per hour worked. A $25 wage with 10% employer payroll taxes and $4 an hour of benefits and insurance is a $31.50 hour, a 26% burden, worked on the page before the crew is quoted at the wage and the margin quietly goes.
  • Labor as a share of revenue, against your own target. $18,000 of loaded labor on $60,000 of revenue is 30%; at a 28% target the revenue allows $16,800, so labor ran $1,200 over. Three figures, the same arithmetic every period, no industry number asserted.
  • Every job's labor filed against the crew that worked it. Loaded rates are kept and dated against the employee; each job carries its crew hours, its labor cost and its price, so the question about what the labor on the March job actually cost has the sheet to hand. Everything exports.
The free tools

Every tool on this site computes on the page, free, with no account and no trial clock. The free version is the whole calculation; the paid plan is about keeping it: loaded rates saved against each employee, jobs priced from them, your name on the sheet and a clean export.

  • Labor burden calculator: Load an hour of labor: the wage, employer payroll taxes at your share, benefits and other costs per hour worked, the loaded cost and the burden rate.
  • Labor percentage calculator: Read labor as a share of revenue: loaded labor over revenue for the period, the labor your target allows, and how far over or under you ran.
  • Construction labor calculator: Price a crew on a job: people times hours at the loaded rate is the labor cost, and your markup on it is the labor price on the bid.
BurdenRateLedger Pro

The tools are free forever. Pro turns them into the ledger: every employee's loaded rate kept and dated, every job's crew hours and labor price filed against it, your name and logo on the sheet, no watermark, and an export when the accountant or the bonding agent asks. BurdenRateLedger Pro is $49 per month for your whole crew, billed monthly.
