screenRIG

Agent-native digital signage: AI agents create, publish and verify content on screens, kiosks and displays via an official plugin and CLI.

Introduction

screenRIG is digital signage and kiosk infrastructure for AI agents — you tell an agent what should appear on a screen and it creates the content, publishes it, and returns a screenshot as proof it is playing.

What is screenRIG?

screenRIG is a digital signage and kiosk platform whose control plane is designed for autonomous AI agents rather than a drag-and-drop editor. Input is a conversation with an agent; output is live images, videos, streams, web pages and applications playing on physical screens, plus machine-readable playback records, project events and on-demand screenshots. Agents reach it through the official plugin at github.com/screenrig/plugin, which bundles a skill and a CLI and requires Node.js 22.11 or newer. Player apps run as a PWA, on Android via Google Play, on Linux and Raspberry Pi, on Samsung Smart Signage (Tizen) and on BrightSign; Amazon Signage Stick, Apple TV, macOS and Windows are listed as coming soon.

What makes screenRIG stand out?
  • Agent-native from the control plane up — the CLI answers in structured JSON, every error states what to do next, and a retried write does not repeat the change.
  • Pre-flight capability checks — an agent can inspect what it is allowed to do before it acts, and content can be prepared on its own machine.
  • Assigned versus playing — publishing reports whether the Player is actually playing the new content or merely has it assigned, and why.
  • Screenshot verification — an agent can request a screenshot from one screen or every screen in a tagged fleet and inspect playback history and project events.
  • Plugin install for seven agent runtimes — Meta Muse, Grok Bot, ChatGPT dots, Claude Code, Hermes (Nous Research), ChatGPT Codex and Gemini Spark.
  • Dashboard control plane — Summary (screens online, credits, storage, plays per day), Screens (live picture, reload, reboot, display off), Playlists (pages, schedules, current revision) and Agents (connected agents, permissions, requested changes).
  • Ad marketplace — opt a screen in, set a rate per 15 seconds of completed playback and invite advertisers by email; buyers pay only for completed plays.
Who is it for?
  • Multi-location pharmacy and retail operators: run a vaccine playlist across dozens of counter screens, invite brands into the ad break and collect proof of play per advertiser.
  • Restaurant chains: pull a sold-out item from every kiosk in one city and let each store’s breakfast menu follow its own clock.
  • Campus and facilities IT: put each room’s schedule outside its door every morning, stream commencement live and take over part of campus during severe weather.
  • Factory and operations teams: build a live Line 3 board from production data against target, publish it to the floor and roll it back in one sentence.
What can you do with screenRIG?
  • Retail media sellers: choose which screens and ad breaks to sell, set a rate per 15 seconds of completed playback, and let earned credits cover that project’s screenRIG usage automatically.
  • Front-of-house teams: ask an agent for a menu board, lobby welcome or check-in kiosk; the agent generates images, pulls in authorized data sources such as a hospital calendar, publishes, then screenshots the result.
  • Distributed operators: manage screens by voice or chat from a phone while the dashboard shows each screen’s health, live picture, playlist revision and agent activity.
How does screenRIG work?
  1. Install the official marketplace plugin for your agent runtime and follow its bundled skill.
  2. Create the project with screenrig agent enroll --email ADDRESS --organization NAME, which creates the identity, organization, Screens project and membership and emails a dashboard login invitation.
  3. Download and install the Player on the screen’s device, launch it, and pair it with screenrig screen pair CODE.
  4. Plan the content together, publish it, then request a screenshot to check the result.

FAQ
Is screenRIG free?

Yes on Standard: up to 100 screens, 10 GB of monthly bandwidth, 1 GB-month of storage and 10,000 API requests or billed events included across your project. Unused allowances do not roll over, image generation is metered separately, and extra usage is optional prepaid.

Which players and devices are supported?

Available now are the PWA, Android on Google Play, Linux and Raspberry Pi packages, Samsung Smart Signage (Tizen) and BrightSign. Amazon Signage Stick, Apple TV, macOS and Windows are listed as coming soon. Every available Player displays a pairing code the agent uses to connect it.

How does an agent verify what is actually on screen?

Publishing reports whether the Player is playing the new content or only has it assigned, along with the reason. The agent can also request a screenshot from a single screen or an entire tagged fleet and inspect playback records and project events, including offline screens.

Can I sell advertising on my screens?

Yes, by invitation. You pick which screens and ad breaks to sell, set a rate per 15 seconds of completed playback, and invite advertisers by email. Buyers accept a quote and are billed only for plays the Player reports as completed; interrupted plays are not billed.

Do I need a global CLI installed?

screenRIG is installed as an agent plugin, not as a global package on your PATH. The Start guide covers the one-time session PATH setup for the bundled screenrig command, and Node.js 22.11 or newer is required.
