Punchcard

A Mac menu bar app that notices where your day went, app by app, then prints you a receipt for it at closing time. $9 once.

Introduction

What is Punchcard?

Punchcard is a Mac menu bar app that quietly notices where your day went, app by app (and site by site in the browser, if you switch that on). At the hour you pick, it prints a receipt of your day: itemized, stamped and ready to post, exported as an image.

No projects, no timers to remember and no account. It notices when you step away, so lunch is not counted as work. It asks for no special permissions to get going, keeps everything in one file on your Mac, and has no analytics.

Free to try with two receipts on the house, then $9 once. macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon and Intel.

How it works
  • Open the store. Drag it to Applications. It takes one small slot in your menu bar and asks for no permissions to get going: not Accessibility, not Screen Recording, not Full Disk Access.
  • Work like normal. It notes which app is in front, notices when you step away, and otherwise stays out of your way.
  • Clock out. At the hour you picked, the paper feeds out line by line and the stamp lands last.
What is on the roll
  • Every receipt exports as a 1080x1350 PNG, with a plain-text version on your clipboard for alt text.
  • The barcode at the bottom is real Code 128 and encodes that day's date.
  • Sunday prints a long roll for the week, and the end of a month prints a longer one.
  • Add any app or website to the never-print list and it vanishes from the roll.
Privacy

It sees the name of the app in front, not what you type. Itemized browsing is optional and keeps only the site name, never the full address, and never an incognito window. Everything lives in a single file on your Mac.
