Kaizen OCR (also marketed as Kaizen OCR & PDF) is a Windows desktop application that extracts text from images, screenshots, and PDFs using four offline OCR engines, and includes a full PDF toolkit, all while keeping your files on your machine. Developed by Kaizen Apps (Pune, India), it runs fully offline, supports 100+ languages and handwriting, and offers a free tier with 7 uses per feature.
Kaizen OCR is a privacy-first, fully offline OCR and PDF editing tool for Windows 10/11. It takes images, scanned PDFs, screenshots, and handwritten notes as input and outputs editable text, searchable PDFs, and other formats. The application bundles four OCR engines—Tesseract, Paddle, Paddle-AI, and optional Azure—plus a full suite of PDF and image tools, all running locally with no internet required for core features.
After downloading the ~400 MB installer and optionally the ~1 GB Paddle-AI model, launch the app on Windows. Drop an image, screenshot, or PDF into the Simple OCR view, pick an engine, and click Run. For volume, use the Advanced OCR view to add folders and process thousands of files. The PDF and capture tools are accessed via side panels. All processing happens locally; the only cloud option is Azure Searchable PDF, which requires your own Azure key.
Kaizen OCR offers a Free tier with 7 uses of every feature forever. Pro is $18/year (no auto-renewal) with unlimited use, Azure searchable PDF, and priority support. Lifetime is a one-time $49 payment with no renewals. A 3-day no-questions-asked refund is available.
The Free tier gives you 7 uses of every feature—enough to evaluate. For unlimited use, purchase Pro ($18/year) or Lifetime ($49 one-time).
