Grassy Knees is a free directory of real things to do with kids across 42 US metro areas: library storytimes, museum family days, parks festivals, nature walks, classes, and seasonal events like Halloween, Christmas lights and ice skating, plus the places worth going back to.
Why it exists
Planning a weekend with kids usually means ten tabs of library calendars, parks pages and "things to do" blogs, half of them out of date. Grassy Knees does that legwork once a day and keeps only events that are still on.
What makes it different
- Every listing is researched from the organizer's own page (libraries, parks departments, museums, zoos, venues), not copied from other directories.
- Each listing links to that page and shows the date it was last checked.
- A daily research run adds new events and re-checks ones that are coming up soon or whose source page changed.
- An import check drops records without a street address or an official link.
Features
- Metro, town, county and venue pages, plus a "this weekend" view for every metro
- Seasonal guides for Halloween, Christmas and holiday lights, and ice skating
- Filters for day, age, price and distance
- Free to browse, no account needed; with an account you can save events, mark "going", get a weekend email and send a group-chat invite link
- iPhone and Android apps
- Every page has a Markdown copy and the site publishes an llms.txt, so AI assistants can cite real listings with their sources
