It is made for people who already have music files and want a separate player for their collection. The app does not include a streaming catalog or sell access to songs.
Import individual files or add a folder through Settings. Audio that has been fully downloaded to the device can play offline. Files that are still stored only in a cloud provider need to be downloaded first. On a Mac, Finder file sharing can transfer a folder to the app; the folder can then be selected inside Open Music.
The library organizes songs with playlists, albums, artists and favorites. Playback features include an equalizer, shuffle and repeat, a sleep timer, a queue, background audio and lock-screen controls. A vinyl-inspired record animates during playback. Light Vinyl and Graphite Lime are two app-wide themes, so the library and full player share the chosen appearance. Theme selection is in Settings.
Open Music is currently free, with no ads, subscription or required account. Optional song recognition needs an internet connection. The app is localized in English, Russian, Bulgarian, Spanish, German, Italian, French, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.
