What is Manatee?
Manatee opens damaged video, PDFs, archives, photos and documents on your Mac and writes out everything it can still read, then tells you exactly what it recovered (for example 34 of 41 pages). The original is never touched.
Four tabs: Repair rebuilds a video's index (mp4, mov, mkv), a PDF's cross-reference table, damaged zip, docx, xlsx and epub files, and fixes srt, csv and txt encodings. Convert handles images, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Reduce shrinks a file to a size limit such as 16 MB for WhatsApp or 20 MB for email. Clean strips EXIF, GPS, camera serials and document authors.

How it works
- Drop a file, or a folder, onto the window, the menu bar icon, or from Finder's right-click menu.
- Manatee reads what survived. Each file goes to the engine built for its kind.
- A new file appears beside the original. The original is never touched, and the row shows how much came back.
What it does
- Repair: rebuilds the index a video needs to play, repairs a PDF's cross-reference table and checks every page, rebuilds damaged archives from the entries still on disk, and fixes subtitle and text encodings.
- Convert: images, video, audio, documents, spreadsheets and presentations, chosen after the drop. A folder of mixed files does the right thing in one go.
- Reduce: finds the best quality that fits under the limit an upload form or chat app enforces, and checks its own output.
- Clean: removes EXIF, GPS, camera serials and document authors while keeping the picture exactly as you see it.
Private by construction
Nothing is uploaded and nothing is collected: no account, no analytics. Every mode writes a new file, so yours is never moved, overwritten or deleted.
