Filewhisk is a collection of free file tools that run entirely inside your web browser.
Most free file tools work the same way: upload your file, a server processes it, you download the result. That means your file sits on someone else's disk, and the operator imposes file size caps, daily limits and sign-up walls to cover their costs. It also means a queue when their servers are busy.
Filewhisk uses the Canvas API and WebAssembly to do the same work on your own device instead. No upload, no size limit, no account, no waiting in line. You don't have to take that on faith either: open any tool, disconnect from the internet, then drop a file in. It still works, because nothing ever left your machine.
One tool worth calling out specifically: compress an image to an exact file size target, not just a quality slider. Forms that demand "under 200KB" or "under 2MB" are common - passport applications, government portals, job application uploads - and guessing a JPEG quality percentage until you land under the limit is tedious. This tool takes the KB target directly and iterates the encoding until it fits, without you touching a slider.
