What is Complaint Box?
Complaint Box is a satirical web tool where anyone can file a formal-sounding complaint about literally anything — a cold cup of coffee, a nosy printer, betrayal by autocorrect, or the universe's general unfairness. There's no real business, government office, or support team on the other end. Instead, every submission is instantly turned into an official-looking Certificate of Formal Complaint, complete with a stamp, a permanent serial number, and a status confirming that no further action will be taken.
How it works
You type your grievance, choose a category (interpersonal, cosmic injustice, betrayal, weather-related, or minor inconvenience), and submit it. Behind the scenes, every complaint passes through an automated moderation filter — built on OpenAI's moderation API — before it's published, screening out hate speech, threats, and harassment so the public feed stays safe to browse. Once approved, the complaint appears instantly in a live, public feed where anyone can read what other people have filed.
The certificate
The certificate itself is the whole point of the experience. It's designed to look convincingly bureaucratic — a numbered case file, a red ink stamp, formal language — specifically because none of it does anything. That gap between how official it looks and how little it accomplishes is the entire joke, and it's designed to be downloaded or shared directly to social media in one tap.
Who it's for
Complaint Box is for anyone who's ever wanted to yell into a government form. It's free to use, requires no account or email address, and is built and maintained as a one-person side project rather than a company product.
